Death and respawn

When you die you keep 30% of your wood, stone and gold and 30% of your total experience. Your next life starts with at least 300 gold, 300 wood, 300 stone, but your items and upgrade choices reset.

The experience you keep includes experience carried over from earlier lives. Maximum-health purchases and timed effects end when you die. You stay in your group, and dying does not remove your structures. Your miners stop producing gold until you respawn. Leaving the server removes your structures.

The living player who lands the final hit receives 40% of the wood, stone and gold you had and 35% of your total experience. Kills by their projectiles, spikes and turrets also qualify. This reward does not come out of what you keep. Nobody receives a player kill reward when a zombie, the Reaper or one of your own structures kills you.

The death screen shows your killer’s name when known, your level, final experience, time alive and time as leader. It also lists damage dealt and resources earned during the life, with the resources you will respawn with at the bottom. Once Continue becomes available, click it or press Enter to return to the spawn screen.

While you are dead, the camera follows your killer if it is still alive. If that target dies, the camera follows its surviving killer. With no living killer to follow, the camera picks a random living player, or a random living zombie when no players are alive.

You respawn with the Stick and building items for a Wooden Wall and a Wooden Miner. Your kept experience restores levels and their upgrade points immediately. The upgrade trees start over, so you choose your upgrades again.

Every life starts with Spawn protection for up to 300 seconds. During that time you take no damage, and zombies, turrets and the Reaper do not target you. It ends early once you deal more than 1 damage in total to players, structures, zombies or bosses. Damage dealt by your structures also counts. Damage over time, gathering resources and removing friendly structures do not end it.
