Combat

Weapons have separate base damage values for players, zombies, structures and resources. The Reaper uses zombie damage. Compare damage per hit, attack rate and specials on each weapon’s page.

Hold Use item (left mouse button by default) to keep attacking. Auto attack (E by default) repeats melee swings and bow shots at the weapon’s normal rate. It does not place structures or make shields attack. It keeps attacking while you chat, open the main menu or a panel, or switch away from the tab, and it carries into your next life. Pressing it again or losing your connection turns it off.

Turning auto attack off lets an already-started melee swing land. Switching items cancels a pending melee hit.

Aim toward your targets. A melee swing can hit several enemies within reach without dividing its damage between them. Knockback can push movable targets away or pull them closer, depending on the attack.

  • Axes deal bonus damage at a set swing interval. Misses count toward the bonus, and switching away and back preserves your progress toward it.
  • Swords repeat their damage when the swing kills an enemy or destroys an enemy structure, resource or gift. The repeat hits the targets caught in that swing without another swing animation. Further kills or destroyed targets can trigger more repeats.
  • Spears apply Slowed to surviving hostile characters. Repeated hits stack slows.
  • Daggers increase your speed while held and grant a stronger speed boost when you kill an enemy or destroy an enemy structure, resource or gift. Switching items clears that boost.

Face incoming attacks with an equipped shield to intercept them. Intercepted hits deal less damage and knockback. Some shields can reflect melee damage back to the attacker, preventing that hit’s damage and knockback to the holder. Projectiles never reflect.

Melee and projectile hits cannot damage members of your group or group-linked structures. Hold Damage own structures (Shift by default) while using melee to remove friendly structures, including your own. Each hit removes 20 % of maximum health regardless of weapon, without rewards. This does not enable damage to group members. TNT is not linked to your group and remains vulnerable without this control.

Players with Spawn protection take no damage or knockback from melee and projectile hits.

A projectile’s killing hit pays 50 % of the base resource and experience rewards for zombies, the Reaper and enemy structures.

Player kills award 40 % of the victim’s wood, stone and gold and 35 % of their total experience. Melee and projectile player kills use the same shares. You must be alive to receive kill rewards. See death and respawn for what the victim keeps.
